FILMING CROCODILES may not be
everybody’s idea of a healthy out-
door occupation, but that is what this
English couple will be doing in Africa
for the next twelve months.
Thirty-year-old Bryan Dempster, the
South African whose hunting exploits
are related in Laurence Earl’s book
“Crocodile Fever,” shot his first cro-
codile when he was seven. His only
weapon on this trip will be a camera,
however, for the object is to take
underwater films of crocodiles, hip-
popotami and other jungle creatures.
With Mr. Dempster will be 22-year-old
Marigold Wood, who is no stranger to
reptiles either; her brother keeps quite
a lot in the attic at their home.
Transport to the remote places they
will visit was rather a problem until
Bryan decided upon a motorcycle and
sidecar, which would be handy and
maneuverable, but would still carry all
their underwater equipment. From the
BSA Company in Birmingham he ob-
tained the loan of a 650 cc Golden
Flash motorcycle and sidecar. The
Birmingham firm say that, altho they
have supplied machines for many un-
usual purposes, this is the first time to
their knowledge that one has been
used on a crocodile hunt!
In the picture Mr. Dempster and Miss
Wood are seen loading their frog-
men’s equipment on the machine when
they collected it from the works.
Bryan Dempster and Marigold Wood load pro-
visions on their BSA Golden Flash in preparation
for their African safari.
