H aving just finished a record 1959 sales season, BSA goes
into 1960 with a 17 model motorcycle range incorporating many
refinements and improvements. Both mechanically, and from
the appearance standpoint, 1960 BSA motorcycles are the finest
ever offered by the big Birmingham, England Factory, and the
range is broad enough to completely cover the motorcycle
market. In addition to motorcycles, BSA offers also the im-
proved Sunbeam twin-cylinder Scooter.
THE BSA RANGE
In the popular 40 cubic inch twin class, BSA offers the
popular “Big Valve Super Rocket Sports Twin,” and the newly
re-named Royal Tourist (formerly Golden Flash). The Spit-
fire Scrambler, a competition model, is also a 40 incher. 500cc
twins arc represented by the 500 Flash and the Shooting Star.
Big Singles, for which BSA is famous, are represented by the
Gold Star Road Racer (in road trim) and the Catalina
Scrambler. Both models arc 500cc capacity and are also avail-
able to special order in 350cc engine size. T he popular Sports-
man 500 road single is also continued.
In the increasingly popular 250cc class, BSA offers the im-
proved 250 Star and the recently introduced 250 Starfire
Scrambler.
BSA two-stroke models are comprised of the sturdy 125cc
Bantam and the 175cc Bantam Super. The 175 is also avail-
able in an under-5-horscpower model for states with special
licensing regulations for younger riders.
The BSA “Sunbeam Scooter’’ in improved form is now offered
in attractive metallic zircon (light green) color.

Beller Braking-. An improved rear brake is now fitted to all
twins and the Sportsman Single. A repositioned brake operat-
ing lever, and improved brake cam action give powerful brak-
ing with less pedal effort. BSA twins all have the extremely
rigid full width type hubs with polished alloy brake plates and
chrome end covers. Cable adjusters are now fitted at the
handlebar end of both brake and clutch cables.
New Clutch Adjustment Access Opening: A large diameter
plug is now fitted in the primary drive of all BSA twins, mak-
ing clutch spring adjustment quick and easy.
New Oil Level Check and Drain Plug: All twins now have a
new oil level check and drain plug fitted to the bottom of the
primary drive case. Oil level in primary drive may be ac-
curately checked or completely drained without disturbing
other parts.
New Tachometer Drive: A neat, new tachometer drive is now
fitted to the Super Rocket and Gold Star Road Racer. Drive
is now taken from the front of the timing chest, entirely
eliminating the former right angle drive.
Tachometer and Speedometer: An 8000 r.p.m. tachometer and
precision speedometer are mounted on a twin bracket on the
Super Rocket and Gold Star Road Racer.
New Style Fenders: An entirely new, self-supporting front
fender is fitted to all road twins. Of valanced type, this new
fender dispenses with the forward brace, is neater, and offers
more protection from road splash. On the Rocket, a new semi-
bobbed fender of valanced type is fitted. Fenders on the
Rocket are heavily chromed, other road models are enamelled.
A neater rear fender brace is also fitted to 1960 twins.
Larger Carburetors: On the Super Rocket with its large di-
ameter valves introduced in 1959, a larger carburetor adds even
more performance. The Royal Tourist also has a larger
carburetor.
New Dip Switch k Horn Button Fitting: A neat new ring-type
lining on the left handlebar now incorporates horn button,
