This exquisite hair bow is a wonderful example of Lakota beading and cultural heritage. A rainbow of colors are "lazy-stitched" around a central native diamond and triangle pattern, primarily in teal and black. Outlining the entire beaded section is a row of crystal banding set in white, followed by a trim row of pearl beads and teal seed beads. A silver rose is sewn into the center. The entire masterpiece is stitched first to pellon to give it the stiffness to hold its shape, and then sewn to brushed leather. The artisan gives the bow a 3-dimensional quality by curving the outer tips backwards and sewing them into place. A leather thong is tied in place in the center of the backing so the bow can be braided into the hair or tied around a a ponytail.
At the widest points the bow is 5 inches wide and 3 inches tall.
