A good example of this report considering its age and the poor paper they used for the covers back then. Often the covers of these are missing entirely.

    Description

    SCARCE OLD ITEM!!
    This is USGS Bulletin 733,
Geology of the York Tin Deposits, Alaska
. Published in 1922, there can't be many of these around. It consists of the 130-page book and both of the original maps, which are bound in to the book as foldout maps. One is an 18 x 22 inch full color map of the geology that is really exceptionally cool looking. They just don’t do work like that any more!
This area on the far northwest end of Alaska is just sixty miles from Asia! The geology is interesting, consisting of packages of limestone intruded by granites, with other rocks as well. At the time, tin was an important strategic metal that the US never had enough of domestically. Out of interest in developing domectic sources, geologic support was given to the ventures at this site.
Prospects mentioned in the text include:
    Cassiterite Creek
    Randt Extension tunnel
    Greenstone lode
    Dolcanth tunnel
Bessie and Maple antimony and lead claims
    Yankee Girl prospect
Wolframite-Topaz lode (that sounds interesting - this location has wolframite, stannite, topaz, fluorite, and other minerals.)
    Idaho copper claim
    Alaska Chief claim
    Read Lead prospect
    Luther lead prospect
    Southern Cross tunnel
    Potato Mountain
    Cape Mountain
    Lagoon Creek
    Winfield workings
This is a pretty in-depth treatment of the geology, and includes numerous photos of the area and some of the rocks and exposures there. Plenty of information for the a
rmchair geologist, or the intrepid explorer. The text is full of sketch maps of geologic features and cross sections. It is fun reading!
