    Description

    COOL GEOLOGY!!
This is USGS Professional Paper 644-A,
Precambrian Geology of the Needle Mountains, Southwestern Colorado
. Published in 1969, there can’t be many of these around! This 35-page book provides an exhaustive look at the early geology of this interesting and beautiful area.
This area is made up of rugged exposures of Precambrian rocks not observed anywhere else nearby. They are bounded by volcanic rocks on one side and by palaeozoic sedimentary rocks on the other. This study was done in part to contribute to a study of a larger area that encompasses it. The geology is fairly diverse for Precambrian rocks, being made up of far more than your typical pick granite and gneisses! It makes for good reading! A scarce publication on an interesting area, this should be of interest to local residents, arm chair geologists, real geologists, and science minded hikers in this pretty area.
