    Description

    SCARCE!! OVER EIGHTY YEARS OLD!!
    This is USGS Bulletin 875,
Nonmetallic Mineral Resources of Eastern Oregon.
Published in 1937, there can't be many of these around. The publication consists of the 180-page book and all nine of the original geologic maps, five of which are bound into the book as foldout maps. The other four are in a pocket in the back. Two are full color geologic maps.
This interesting book discusses a variety of deposits of minerals in eastern Oregon. The commodities discussed include:
    Asbestos
    Diatomite
    Limestone
    Pumice
Each of these is discussed in great detail, with individual deposits described, and several maps of areas of interest. The two color maps are of important diatomite areas, and are pretty cool looking vintage maps:
Geologic Sketch Map of the Harper Diatomite District, Malheur County, Oregon
Geologic Sketch Map of Otis Basin, Harney County, Oregon
One of the maps about pumice has Crater Lake on it. An index map has all the areas marked on it.
All in all a pretty interesting book about some lesser known deposits. A scarce book for the die hard mineral collector, Oregon historian, or armchair geologist. A good find.
