    Description

RARE IN HARD COVERS!!  EARLY REPORTS ON WELL KNOWN DISTRICTS!!
    This is USGS Bulletin 715,
    Contributions to Economic Geology, 1920.
Published in 1921, there can't be many of these around. The publication consists of the 230-page
    hard cover
    book and
all of the original geologic maps, some of which fold out, other take a page in the book.
    The
Contributions to Economic Geology series of reports detailed selected new mining areas and active mining areas, mostly in the US but occasionally including other countries. This volume contains articles on potash, iron, manganese, phosphate, and salt in various locations, but the articles likely to be of greatest interest today are these:
    The Mogollon District, New Mexico:
A famous gold, silver, copper and lead district. This article is 34 pages and has five foldout maps of the geology and underground mining. The district produced over 10 million ounces of silver and significant gold during the period 1904-1917, and was still active at the time of writing.
    Yellow Pine Cinnabar district, Idaho:
An eleven page article discusses this mercury district, discovered in 1902. Comes with a claims map on one page and a geologic map on another. Some interesting details on the early history of mining here.
The Divide Silver District, Tonopah, Nevada:
A 24-page article discusses this area as on of "Nevada's newest silver camps." Tonopah is a famous mining area centered around a large rhyolite dome complex, with many separate mining areas. This article has a one page map and a generalized columnar section, and a lot of details about the emergence of this district. The silver discovery had only just been made in 1917 by accident!
However the other articles are also interesting and varied, often with nice fold out maps as well. This is a book you can literally just sit and read in its entirety, since the articles are not overly technical. I've included pictures of the articles and plates from the Table of Contents. There is something for everybody.
Originally issued in soft covers with terrible acidic paper, this one was saved by being rebound to nice hardcovers before incurring any damage. It is in excellent condition - as good as you could expect to find in any book a hundred years old.
Priced based on a nice, vintage, hard cover value for the Mogollon report, judging that someone will likely buy this for just one of the articles, and that one is the longest and best illustrated with maps.
