COOL FOSSIL PHOTOS!! SCARCE OLD ITEM!!This is USGS Professional Paper 398-B,
Tertiary Plants from the Cook Inlet Region, Alaska.
Published in 1966, there can't be many of these around. This 32-page book comes with a
n additional eight pages of plates of photos of fossil leaves, plus a number of drawings of leaves in the text showing their features. They describe sixteen new species of plants. They are generally well-preserved, mostly consisting of deciduous tree leaves in various shapes. Most of the fossils are shown at actual size, so they are some good size fossils and pretty worthy of display if you can find some for yourself.
Evidently the climate was quite different in this area when these were formed. They came from two time periods; the Paleocene, and the Neogene, which is a younger period. There were apparently lots of questions about the succession of plants during those times and this report and really helped sort it out.
This is a great item for the fossil lover or Alaska resident interested in their area. The photos and drawings are pretty cool too.
As always, please read the condition notes.
