    Description

    RARE CLASSIC!!  AMAZING FOSSIL TURTLES!!
This is USGS Professional Paper 98-Q,
Contributions to the Geology and Paleontology of San Juan County, New Mexico - Vertebrate Faunas of the Ojo Alamo, Kirtland, and Fruitland Formations
    .
Published in 1916, this is a rare and important work, sel
dom seen or offered on Ebay. This 40-page book includes the original foldout map, and seven plates of photos of the amazing fossil turtles from the area.
I got this from a collection and when I opened it I could not believe the quality of the fossils shown in the pictures. There are complete skulls and shells of various turtle species, plus other bones as well. The fossils are large too. The complete shell on one of the pages is actually three times larger than shown! The text contains additional drawings of other fossils and descriptions of the species. This report also includes a map showing the fossil locations, which occur in three adjacent formations. The map would definitely get you in the neighborhood if you wanted to go look for some of your own.
This would serve as an excellent reference for the serious collector and a significant addition to any library on fossils, or of New Mexico geology. It is a rare item. not surprisingly, and those of you that know me know I don't use that word lightly. These pre-WWII reports are also especially hard to find.
Expert packing assured. The recent increase in postage rates was pretty big. As a result, Media Mail is now my default shipping method to keep shipping affordable.
