Description
LAST ONE!!This is USGS Professional Paper 313-D, “
Biostratigraphy of the Phosphoria, Park City, and Shedhorn Formations
.” Published in 1968, this is a pretty scarce item. This 90-page book details the fossils of these important Permian formations, known for large phosphate deposits.
The Phosphoria formation is known for turritella agate, with all those little snail shells in it, but there are many other fossils in these rocks, including mollusks, horn corals, fusilinids, crinoids, brachiopods, bryozoans, and even fish scales!
This report is based on 1500 separate collections of fossils made throughout the region of Idaho, Utah, Montana, and Wyoming. The amount of fossils correlated through these rocks allowed them to sort out the layering of these related formations quite well, and there are stratigraphic correlation diagrams to show how it all fits together. There is also a map within the text showing the location of fossil collections. It's a nice piece of work.
