  • Condition: Name written on cover in red marker. Same name on large color map, not covering anything. Cover has minor creasing and edge wear. Large map is notable wrinkled around the edges and at some crease lines. Text is great with no internal marks. Other sheets in the back are very good.

    This is USGS Professional Paper 872,
    Geology of the Golden Quadrangle, Colorado
    . Published in 1976, there aren't many of these around! The publication consists of the
    116-page book
    and
    and the two pocket sheets, one of which is a large sheet with a small map inset and profiles of certain significant streams in the area. The other is a chart of fossils fr
    om the Pierre shale in the area.
    This one comes with two extras that are not original to this report. One is a large map sheet with a color geologic map of the quadrangle to one side and extensive descriptive text to the other. This map is so wide I couldn't fit it on my photo stand which is four feet wide, so I took a photo of each half. See my pictures above, the second and last pictures.
    This is USGS map GQ-103, usually coming as a separate item with a yellow sleeve. In this case it is loose in the pocket in the back.
    Also included is a strat column of rocks in the quadrangle -  see photo #6. These are nice additions to this report.
    The text contains details of the formations and features in the Golden area, including some neat photos of some notable features.
    This is a great report, one of the best for its detailed geology. If you live in the area or know someone that does, this is the thing for you.
