    Description

SCARCE VINTAGE ITEM!! HARD TO FIND!!
    This is USGS Bulletin 945-A,
Geology of the Grey Eagle and Some Nearby Chromite Deposits in Glenn County, California
. Published in 1944, there can’t be many of these around! This publication consists of the 26-page book and ALL SIX OF THE ORIGINAL MAPS, one of which is an index map showing the locations of mines and prospects. Three of the maps are fold-out maps bound into the book, the other three are in a pocket in the back of the book. The rare green chromium garnet
    uvarovite
has been found in this area, as well as the rare purple chromium chlorite called
    kammererite
    , as well as
    chromite, serpentine, olivine, talc, chalcedony
    , and
    magnesite
    .
Perhaps even more minerals have since been found in this area. In addition, quite a number of sites in this area are discussed in the book:
    Grey Eagle Mine
    Black Diamond Mine
    Black Diamond #9 Mine
    Black Diamond #10 Claim
    Black Diamond #5 Claim
Black Diamond #6 and Loleta (K.I. Cooper) Claims
    Manzanita Claim (F.M. Burrows)
    Manzanita Extension Claim (Lena Burrows)
    Hooligan Deposit (F.M. Burrows)
    Katherine Claim
    Manzanita Mine
This publication makes not only a great guide for the collector wanting to visit this area, but also a unique historical record of this district. This is a rare publication on an interesting and historical mining area. This is a rare opportunity for the collector of California minerals, the historian, or anyone that wants to give the place a crack!
