    Description

    HUGE COLORFUL MAP!!
    This is USGS Bulletin 1027-P,
Geology of the Murray Area, Shoshone County, Idaho
. This 24-page report published in 1956 discusses the complex geology of this mining area in Idaho. It comes complete with the original five maps, some of which are of underground mine workings. The color map is pretty detailed, showing rocks of the Belt group and some igneous intrusions as well. It has a couple helpful cross sections at the bottom that really bring the geology to life.
This area was known for lead and zinc mining, with some copper, gold, and silver as well. Some of the mines discussed in the text include:
    Jack Waite mine
    Crystal Lead mine
    Monarch mine
    Black Horse and Paragon mines
Bear Top, Ione, and Orofino mines
    Silver Strike mine
    Giant Ledge prospect
    And others!
    Some placer
    gold
deposits also occur in the area, but are not detailed in this report. There is a cool table of production numbers from some of the mines.
The treatment of the geology is somewhat brief, but adequate to put the ore deposits in context. It's a great starting point for anyone wanting to explore this area or understand the history or geology better. A scarce old report. Nice to find it complete with all the maps.
