    Description

SCARCE ITEM! OVER SIXTY FIVE YEARS OLD!!
    This is USGS Circular 231
    ,
Exploratory Drilling Program of the US Geological Survey for Evidences of Zinc-Lead Mineralization in Iowa and Wisconsin, 1950-51
    .
    Published in 1953, t
his report documents the geology of this interesting area, which is part of the Upper Mississippi Zinc-Lead district, and efforts on the part of the USGS to find more ore in this area. It consists of the 37-page book and all four of the original maps, all of which are in great condition! The general geology of the area, the nature of the lead-zinc ore zones and the results of the drilling program are all discussed in the book.
The maps are in excellent condition and look like they have never been used. Two are cross sections and two are maps of significant areas. The report mentions galena being found in some of the stream beds in the area, and also right in the sides of steep ravines. Sounds pretty interesting! The report focuses on the Tet de Mort area of Iowa and the Highlands area of Wisconsin, but it also discusses the region as a whole and gives some of the history of mining around the area.
    These circulars are uncommon.
    Harder
to find than most bulletins, these were simply never as widely available.
