    Description

RARE, HIGHLY DESIRABLE REPORT!!  FIRST I'VE EVER HAD!!
This is USGS Professional Paper 608-A,
Geology and Beryllium Deposits of the Lake George (or Badger Flats) Beryllium Area, Park and Jefferson Counties, Colorado
. Published in 1969, there can’t be many of these around! This 44-page book provides a thorough look at the geology of this interesting mineralized area and comes with all the original maps in the pocket in the back.
This are was mined for Beryllium, which occurs in griesen deposits. Unlike many beryllium deposits, where the beryllium is in beryl within pegmatites, the deposits in this area are associated with contact zones of certain Precambrian granites where griesen veins formed with the interesting minerals. All the rock units in the area are described and the beryllium mines and prospects are described in detail. A number of interesting minerals are mentioned and described:
    Beryl
    Bertrandite
    Euclase
    Galena
    Sphalerite
    Arsenopyrite
    Molybdenite
    Pyrite
    Chalcopyrite
    Covellite
    Cassiterite
    Uraninite
    Hematite
    Goethite
    Wolframite
    Topaz
    Scheelite
    Siderite
    Muscovite
    Barite
    Apatite
    Possibly monazite
    Fluorite
Many of these form nice crystals.
Quite a number of mines and prospects are shown on the maps and described in the text. Among them are the following.
Boomer Mine, including the Mammoth and Outhouse lodes
    J & S Group mines
    China Wall mine
    Mary Lee mine
    Redskin Gulch mine
    Black Prince mine
    Tappan Mountain area
The book contains numerous little maps, photos, and diagrams in addition to lots of interesting details on the geology and mines. It is a treasure trove of information.
This would be a great addition to any mineral collector's library and a good guide to the areas mines, prospects and minerals. This is the only one I have ever had in twenty years in this business. Get it while it lasts! It won't last long.
