    Description

    INTERESTING STUDY!! COLORFUL MAP!!
This is USGS Professional paper 274-M,
Metamorphism and the Origin of Granitic Rocks, Northgate District, Colorado
." This 41-page report comes with two maps in a pocket in the back. One is a nice full color map of the area, another is B&W and shows more detailed aspects of some of the geology.
This is a fairly interesting study of the Precambrian basement rocks in the Northgate district, which lies along the Front Range and is bounded on the north by the Wyoming line. The rocks are classic Precambrian gneisses and granites, although with local differences. Each is described fully, and the relationships between them are clearly shown on the color map. The story of their formation is a pretty interesting one. There are six plates of photographs of the rock textures and minerals in the back of the text. It is a very complete study you will enjoy going through. Should be of interest to geologists, arm chair geologists, and science-minded hikers in this beautiful area.
