    Description

SCARCE OLD REPORT!!  FAST SELLER WHEN I CAN GET ONE!!
    This is USGS Bulletin 1216,
Geology of the Republic Quadrangle and Part of the Aeneas Quadrangle, Washington
. Published in 1967, there can't be many of these around. It consists of a 135-page book and the original full color geologic map. The map is at a scale of 1:62,500 which is the scale used for most 30' maps, but it contains a bit more area because it contains part of the Aeneas quad in addition to the Republic quad. In all the area covered is about 270 square miles.
This is an interesting area that contains the Republic district and Republic mine, known for
    gold and
    silver
production. Mines in the area had produced at least
700,000 ounces of gold and over four million ounces of silver
in the years leading up to 1952, but were still active at the time of writing. It was a very productive area for a long time.
This report is extensive in its coverage of the geology. Rocks in the area range in age from Permian to Tertiary and include a wide range of types. We now know these rocks were accreted onto North America in the Mesozoic, but they didn't know that then. Either way, the geology is pretty cool and complex an the report and map really help bring it to life. The cross sections at the bottom of the map add a great deal to the portrayal of the geology.
There is a section on the ore deposits and their features including the Republic vein system. This section takes up about a fifth of the book.
This is a scarce and desirable publication on an interesting and diverse area, and it is complete and in great condition. This would make an excellent guide book to the old mining in the area, or an invaluable resource for the historian or geologist. These area scarce because they were mostly gobbled up by mining and exploration companies. It is nice to find this in such good condition.
