    Description

    SCARCE ITEM!!
This is USGS Bulletin 1157, “
Geology of the Shotgun Butte Area, Fremont County, Wyoming.
” Published in 1964, this is a scarce and desirable report on this geologically interesting area. This comes complete with 123-page book, the original
    full color geology map
of the quadrangle measuring 39 inches wide and even taller than it is wide, plus
two additional diagrams of the formations
, which all come in a pocket in the back of the book.
This area is dominated by a large basin surround on several sides with mountain ranges. The area has Triassic and younger formations including some that are significant for coal resources as well as oil and gas. This report gives a complete treatment of the geology, describing all the formations in detail, yet it is quite understandable. The map is
    large and
colorful, and has excellent cross sections that really bring the geology to life. It covers about 300 square miles. This would be a great guide to anyone wanting to check out this large area, or any prospector, historian, or local resident that wants to know more about the area.
