    Description

    RARE IN HARD COVER
This is USGS Professional Paper 694,
Sulfide Minerals in the G and H Chromite Zones of the Stillwater Complex, Montana.
Published in 1971 this is a pretty scarce item because they got gobbled up by mining and exploration companies. This
    hard cover,
large format book is 20 pages
    .
These were originally issued with soft covers, but this was professionally rebound in hard covers by a mining company and then hardly used, since the library card shows only one check out!
This is a great old report that details some of the mineralogy in t
he lowest parts of the Stillwater Complex, where there are chromite and localized massive sulfide occurrences. These were of interest due to the potential for platinum deposits similar to those in the Bushveld Complex in South Africa.
Minerals discussed in these rocks include Pyrrhotite, Pentlandite, Chalcopyrite, Niccolite, and Platinum Group Minerals. There are some pretty cool diagrams in the book, both of the geologic setting, and of the mineral grains within the rocks. It is a detailed studied that sheds light on the processes that led to sulfides forming in the chromite horizons.
The story here is pretty cool, and if you are into these sorts of rocks, this report won't disappoint.
It paints a very dynamic picture of the mineralization processes at work during formation of some of the chromite layers in the Stillwater Complex.
    Rare in hard cover!
