    Description

POPULAR ITEM!! BEAUTIFUL COLORFUL MAP!!  ONLY ONE AVAILABLE!!!
This is USGS Professional Paper 663-A,
Pre-Quaternary Rocks in the Sun River Canyon Area, Northwestern, Montana
. Published in 1972 this is a nice item that give a full treatment to the rocks of this beautiful area. It consists of the 142-page book, plus two maps and a large chart of the formations. The main map is a colorful full 15-minute quadrangle map with amazing detail. It would look great framed, to be honest.
Parts of this area lie within the the Northern Rocky Mountains, parts within the High Plains. Significant areas lie within the Bob Marshall Wilderness. This area is home to rugged mountain peaks containing an unbelievably complex series of thrust faults, as well as folds and igneous intrusions. It is frankly amazing they they could sort it all out. This great report describes all the formations in detail as well as the geologic structures that affect them. A cool comprehensive report on the area.
This should be of interest to hikers, backpackers, arm chair geologists, local residents, and would make a great gift if you know any of these folks!
