    Description

    LAST ONE!! WON'T LAST LONG!!
This is USGS Professional Paper 556, “
Petrology of the Morrison Formation in the Colorado Plateau Region
.” Published in 1967, this is a scarce report that details features of this formation that hosts hundreds of uranium-vanadium deposits in the Colorado plateau. This 113-page book comes complete with the original map, and details aspects of the formation in the Four Corners states of Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado. Scores of locations and exposures of this widespread formation were visited and observations compiled to produce this detailed summary.
Some of the questions considered in this study include the origin of the sediments that went into the formation, since that had been an open question for many years before this study. The results paint an interesting picture of an evolving continent in times long past.
    Thi
s is a really interesting report on a cool formation that was central to uranium mining in this historic mining region. These are scarce because they were mostly snapped up by mining companies that sought to use the information to prospect for hidden deposits.
