Moderate general wear includes wrinkling around the edges of the cover; creases around the covers front and back; corner bumping; and a tear don the corner of the back cover along the spine; and two stamps on the front cover. Same stamp is on the map pocket, along with some writing. There is wear and small tears around the opening of the map pocket but the maps are secure. There is a large red stamp on the title page, barely covering any text. No underlining or internal marks. Text block is in very good condition. Maps are also very good, but each has the same stamp on the back as those on the front cover of the book. Most issues are cosmetic rather than structural.

    Description

    ONLY ONE AVAILABLE!!
This is USGS Bulletin 1030-I, “
Reconnaissance Study of Uranium Deposits in the Red Desert, Sweetwater County, Wyoming
.” Published in 1956, this is a pretty scarce item! This thick bulletin consists of a 73-page book and ALL EIGHT OF THE ORIGINAL GEOLOGIC MAPS. This area is noted for schroeckingerite deposits. Schroeckingerite is a colorful uranium mineral. This study surveyed an area of about 650 square miles, with smaller focal areas discussed in greater detail.
The Lost Creek deposit is one of the prospects noted for this mineral. Uranium is also present in uraniferous lignite in the area. This is a large report with several nice maps. The whole thing, the book with the maps in the back pocket is about a half inch thick and weighs about ten ounces. That’s over a half pound of fun to look through as you explore this area!  A quick check on Minat.org turned up some nice photographs of this scarce mineral. Perhaps it is not that hard to find good examples. Should be worth a try. The area of the crystals is near Wamsutter. You should go find some!!
