    Description

    FEW LEFT!!
    This is USGS Bulletin 1123-G,
Geology of the Belmont and Calamine Quadrangles, Wisconsin
. Published in 1964, this is a pretty rare item. This publication documents the geology of this interesting area. This area is part of the Upper Mississippi Zinc-Lead district. This publication consists of the 75-page book and all three of the original geologic maps, all in good condition! One of the maps is a beautiful double size full color geologic map of two quadrangles showing the locations of dozens of old mines and prospects.
Here is a list of minerals known from the mines of the area:
    Calcite
    Cerussite
    Chalcopyrite
    Barite
    Galena
    Marcasite
    Pyrite
    Sphalerite
    Smithsonite
    Quartz
    Malachite
    Cuprite
    Azurite
    Dolomite
The locations of numerous named mines are shown on the large color map, and include:
    Liberty mine
    Big Dick mine
    Connecting Link #1 mine
    Connecting Link #2 mine
    Dall mine
    Cook prospect
    Trego-Anthony mines
    Buzzards Roost diggings
    Knee Deep diggings
    Cockleburry Hill diggings
    Strawberry Hill diggings
    Jones Churchill range
    Elk Grove diggings
    M.C. mine
    Southwest Wisconsin mine
    Pillings diggings
    Forked Deer diggings
    Kings diggings
    Skidmore diggings
    Copper prospect
The history and production of the area is documented, along with a complete treatment of the geology. The publication is in great condition, with only slight wear to the cover and a bit of discoloration on one of the maps that I mention only for completeness. The condition is really amazingly good. I don’t know where this spent its many years but it was well cared for. This is a rare opportunity to own a scarce geologic publication on an interesting area. The large color geologic map alone is worth it! You’ll wait a long time before you see another of these on eBay!
